A project awaited for 10 years finally sees the light of day
After more than ten years of planning and consultation, the Trioncelle recycling center is finally preparing to welcome the public. Located in Baie-Mahault, it was inaugurated this Friday, August 29, 2025. It is now the largest waste treatment facility in the archipelago. Indeed, it will be able to handle up to 17 different types of waste.
This often delayed project was carried out to meet growing waste management needs. Therefore, residents will soon have a modern, practical and environmentally friendly space.
An inauguration marked by the mobilization of elected officials
The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of local elected officials and representatives of Cap Excellence. Thus, the mayor of Baie-Mahault, Hélène Polifonte, welcomed the completion of this project:
"I am extremely satisfied, not for myself, but for the people of Baie-Mahault and those of Cap Excellence."
Otherwise, this site is located on a strategic axis linking Jarry, Sainte-Rose and Les Abymes, which makes it easily accessible for a large part of the population.
Seamless access and an organization designed for the public
Jean-Michel Cuny Maynard, director of the territorial hubs of Baie-Mahault and Pointe-à-Pitre, specified that several developments have been planned:
"We have planned an access lane, a waiting lane, and a capacity to accommodate up to five vehicles simultaneously."
Thanks to this, deposits will be made quickly, without the need for complex handling. Furthermore, agents will be present on site to guide and support users in their sorting actions.
A site aligned with the municipality's ecological commitments
The municipality has implemented several measures to limit the environmental impact of the site. Especially, the installation of solar panels will cover the site's energy needs. In addition, the lighting is fully adapted to natural light, which helps to reduce light pollution in the evening.
For example, the lighting system only works when strictly necessary. Thus, electricity consumption remains minimal throughout the day.
Consequently, the municipality clearly affirms its commitment to the energy transition.
Opening hours accessible to all
The Trioncelle recycling center will be open every day of the week, including public holidays. The final opening hours will be published shortly on official communication channels.
In this way, users, even those with unusual hours, will be able to easily organize themselves to come and drop off their waste.
A step forward for Guadeloupe in waste management
The opening of this new recycling center represents an important step in the modernization of sorting and collection infrastructure in Guadeloupe. Furthermore, it will help relieve congestion at other collection points already in place.
In Summary, the Trioncelle site constitutes a model in terms of local treatment, accessibility and environmental performance.
